In Kate Chopins The Storm and The Story of an Hour both novels steortype women in a typically life during that time However while both women uphold their womanly responsibility in the eyes of society they live very different lives behind closed doorsIn The Story of an Hour Mrs Mallard is perceived as a woman who would not be able to handle any bad news about her husband She is a wife who loved her husband without regrets Therefore it comes as a shock when Mrs Mallard rejoices in her husbands death While it is inferred that Mrs Mallard was sincere in her love for her husband she feels as if she gave too much of herself and is now freeOn the other hand The Storm portrays a wife and devoted housewife that is worried about the well-being of her child and husband Unfortunately Calixta is a very immoral person While her family is waiting out the storm She becomes involved in an amorous moment with an old fling Both woman are profiled as good citizen wives Mrs Mallard as well as Calixta have loved their husbands dedicated their time to everything for their family and uphold their wifely duties to the best of their ablities The husbands are the king of the two womans life and nothing in the world can replace their husbandsThe women in both novels share similarities in many different ways other than just being wives What they do behind the eyes of society makes the womans voice heard Mrs Mallard since of needing to be free after many devoted years to her husband and Calixta desire to fill emptiness within herself but not until her family is far enough not to get hurt
