The Leader of the Israelites in their escape from Egypt and their journey to Canaan Throughout the Bible Moses is considered the founder the lawgiver that is the one who taught that Gods people must live by his teaching and the forerunner of the prophets Moses is one of the most commanding and memorable characters of the Bible A man on close terms with God himself Moses was capable of bringing down plagues on the enemies of the Israelites even while experiencing crippling moments of self-doubt The pharaoh orders all the male children of the Hebrews slain Moses mother placed him in a small boat made of bulrushes and hid him in a marsh where he was found by the daughter of the pharaoh who adopted him When Moses was a grown man he killed an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew and had to flee Egypt to escape punishment He settled in Midian were he marries Zipporah the daughter of the high priest of Median Here he settles for forty years In his new home he encountered a burning bush that would not consume itself It was an angel of God who recruited him to free the Israelites from slavery God reveals himself as I am who I am God would reveal himself to Israel as he had never been seen before the God who delivers or redeems In a duel between Moses his brother Aaron and the Egyptian magicians there were ten plagues On the tenth plague after witnessing the death of all firstborn in his kingdom pharaoh finally let the Israelites go The Passover was a reminder of the fact that salvation can only take place through the shedding of blood and sacrifice For a moment Pharaoh permitted the people of Israel to leave After they left he changed his mind and pursued them to the Red Sea The sea opened up to let the Israelites cross on dry land but
