I was not always connected to the online social world In fact I would say I was disconnected up until 4th grade when I got my first cellular phone If I can describe what life was before then in one word it would be simple My life now is more complicated with the addition of phones in my life The chain of the phone wraps me and suffocates me like a snake sapping my energy I want to escape from my phone but I cannot because of the insecurity of being without one I still have nostalgic dreams when I was little when fun things in life were simply hanging out with friends or playing some video games with my brother Sometimes in the modern world I feel like owning a cell phone is meant as a sign that we have grown up and are ready to face the real world Getting a phone is like getting hazed like an initiation process to signal our life we are ready to grow up and become a mature adult When my parents trusted me to own a phone in 4th grade perhaps it was a little bit of a rush to grow up and I wasnt mature enough to handle the responsibility The rush to get my phone was probably fueled by the fact that I was living in a foreign country I ultimately learned from my life that the technology in life is not so much the usefulness but to fill the unhappy things in my life that I never dared to confrontI moved to Shanghai China when I was 9 years old just after I finished the third grade It was a tough time for me to transition my life to a new country because I had already settled in school in Cupertino and suddenly I was required to drop all my acquired friends and with all that my sense of security My parents request
