Motivation is the force that makes workers do things so they would have the inspiration to complete the task It effects the efforts we put into the workers to increase their standard of output In addition motivation affects both quantity and quality This essay will describe the theories of McGregor and Herzberg and will apply them to business in Saudi Arabia analyzing which works bestMcGregor MacKenzie 2010 has suggested that there are two fundamental factors theory X and Y Firstly theory X because most people dislike work and lazy they must be controlled and threatened with losing their job According to theory X The average human prefer to be directed dislike responsibility moreover most workers are not ambitious to have desire for reliability Essentially most workers need to work with close supervision and tight control In addition most people have little aptitude or creativity in solving organization problems Secondly theory Y employees are ambitious self motivated anxious to accept greater responsibility and enjoy their work according to McGregor MacKenzie 2010 people would be self directed and creative to meet their work and organization objective if they are committed to them On the other hand Herzberg has two theories which areHygiene factors leading to dissatisfaction Herzberg MacKenzie 2010 suggested that working conditions could have effect on staff motivation for instance salary and job security usually is one of the highest motivations in addition providing paid holiday and pension are incentives that motivate workersSecondly Motivation factors Leeds to satisfaction For instance sense of achievement recognition and personal growthHowever both McGregor theories are relevant to work place I definitely seen variation of both during my working experience in Saudi mangers use theory X for lower class workers and theory Y for high level of skills for instance Doctors and engineers in addition theory Y is the model assumed to improve employee productivity
