A sheet of snow blankets the pavement on the black top of the schoolyard Helen and I were playing on I was just an innocent little second grader thenIsnt so pretty I begged my mom to buy it for me I just had to have it Helen was showing off her new knee length hooded magenta jacket with a pink flower on the right pocket She stuck her hands out by her sides like a ballerina and twirled round and round There was nothing about mine boring white parka so I just stood there and watched her with envy A strong wind attacked the black top The frigid February air went past my puffy parka and punctured my skin causing every inch of it to tingle I rubbed my numb hands and dove them in to my pockets hoping to find warmth Something in my left pocket rubbed against my palms it was very smooth I grasped it and pull it out curious to what it could be It was a little red envelope embellished with gold plum blossoms in it slept two one hundred-dollar bills It was the Chinese New Years money I got from a relative a week ago Remember how we said we should get friendship braceletsYeah what about themI have something betterReally WhatThis I held up the 200 and waved it in the air as if it was a grand prizeHelen look at it for several second puzzled That she raised her eyebrows in doubtYep this You can keep the money for a month then I will get to keep it the next month As long as we stay friends we can keep on exchanging it and thats what we will do because we are going to be best friends forever Everyone has a friendship bracelet but nobody exchanges money This can be our own thing What do you thinkHelen looked at me then look at the cash in
