In the classic The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka Gregor Samsa is transformed into a monstrous vermin The basic needs of this individual are mostly neglected Before Gregors metamorphosis his basic needs of food shelter water sleep oxygen and relationships were only half met After his great transformation almost none of his basic needs were met In order for one to function properly and survive in society ones basic needs should be met to the full Before Gregors metamorphosis his needs were not met as they should have been Food water oxygen sleep shelter and healthy relationships with others are essential for one to lead a healthy life Gregors needs were only half met though He did indeed have oxygen water and shelter but his food sleep and relationships were inadequate Ive got the torture of traveling worrying about changing trains eating miserable food at all hours constantly seeing new faces no relationships that last or get more intimate This getting up so early he thought makes anyone a complete idiot Human beings have to have their sleep 4 Gregors best relationship seemed to have been with a picture of a pretty lady he had cut out of a magazine and framed on his wall His food was poor his sleep was little and his healthy relationships with others did not exist Perhaps Gregors metamorphosis occurred because his needs were not met to the extent that they should have been After Gregors metamorphosis his needs were still half neglected He had finished with everything long since and was just lying lazily at the same spot when his sister slowly turned the key as a sign for him to withdraw That immediately startled him although he was almost asleep and he scuttled under the couch again But it took great self-control for him to stay under the couch even for the short time his sister was in the room since his body had become a little bloated
