AbstractIn this paper I am going to explore the USA Patriot Act and its origins This paper will take a look at how the Government justifies the Patriot Act and how they are misleading the public by diminishing the violations to your fundamental constitutional rights This paper will examine what constitutional rights are being violated by the Patriot Act as well as the terrorist threats detected and prevented by the PAOn September 11 2001 the United States was changed forever when members of the terrorist group Al-Qaeda high-jacked two planes and flew them into the twin towers in New York Nearly 3000 Americans lost their lives in a couple of hours In the wake of the attacks Congress passed a bill that was signed into law by President George W Bush Most people know these laws as The USA Patriot Act PurposeThe Patriot Act was created with noble intent The primary intention of the Patriot Act was to find and prosecute international terrorists operating on American soil However the vague language has left space for unfortunate consequences as many of the Patriot Acts provisions are in clear violation of the US Constitution The USA Patriot Act is an acronym for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism The bill was signed into law with little debate on October 26th 2001 only 45 days after the attacks that shook the country The support for the bill was overwhelming and bi-partisan with 98 votes for those in favor of and 1 vote against However the bill was 342 pages long and many members of Congress now admit they did not even read it before voting in favorAccording to Bernard Weiner 2003 professor of American politics and international relations at Western Washington University and San Diego State University The Bush Administration hustled the so-called USA PATRIOT Act through a frightened Congress in a patriotic blur just a few days after the
