In this day in age most employers expect their employees to be able to communicate with each other important information using computers and other forms of technology In nursing depending on the facility that you work in that technology can range from computers to tablets This includes sending e-mails texting or video conferencing to communicate to other staff and management In nursing as any work environment there are a few ways to communicate to other staff members Professionals on the job face a wide array of options from e-mail fax voice mail video- conferencing and Web sites to more traditional means like letters memos reports telephone calls and face-to-faceAlred Brusaw Oliu 2012 p XVIII Management may send e-mails text and post flyers stating of any policy changes or other important matters to watch Communication with the doctor if it is not face to face will be by phone call text or e-mail to communicate any changes about a patient In the jail there are 2 common ways we usually communicate with other staff members or management We will e-mail each other on certain policy or procedures that have changed in the jail system when caring for a patient We also communicate with a log book writing the events of the day what emergencies went on that day who was sent out to the ER and who we should be closely monitoring This type of communication helps staff continue patient care Most of the nursing charting is done by writing on progress notes and health assessment forms created by the health staff at the jail Lab results are received by logging in to the laboratory website Technology will continue to increase in usage by nurses as the years continue I scored an 89 on the PATCH assessment because I truly believe that technology and computers will be valuable in healthcare Nurses should develop a minimum of a user level in computer literacy and informatics
