Utopia Love it or Leave it Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is a novel about a futuristic utopian society and how it functions Huxley in this novel depicts a society in which humans are born through scientific decanting processes and brainwashed using hypnopaedic suggestion Each person in Huxleys utopia has a certain job to perform and a group of peers to socialize with These limitations on ones freedom attempt to create a society in which everyone is happy and everyone knows their place in the community The utopia created in Brave New World could never function efficiently in a real society because it does not fulfill the very teachings of its motto community identity and stability To start with the people of Huxleys utopia do not function correctly as a community From the time they are born into society these people are each put into a group All the children who are predestined to be members of the Delta group are forced to play and socialize only with other Delta children These groups called castes remain intact until death There are five castes used in this utopia Alpha Beta Gamma Delta and Epsilon Members of each caste are encouraged to discourage from associating with members of other castes Every night while they are sleeping the children of this society are forced to listen to messages After hearing the same messages several times a night for several nights in succession the children believe them and behave accordingly This process is called hypnopaedic suggestion One of the hypnopaedic messages played to the Beta children each night says Alpha children wear grey They work much harder than we do because theyre so frightfully clever Im really glad Im a Beta because I dont work so hard And then we are much better than the Gammas and the Deltas Gammas are stupid They all wear green and Delta children wear khaki Oh no I dont want to
