Vietnam was divided into North Vietnam war and South Vietnam North Vietnam is communist and the United States feared that communism would spread throughout Southeast Asia In August 1967 in a small remote village in North Vietnam was a base camp called Lai Kne This camp was filled with musty angry American men They were very close with the other men that they fought with they became brothers Groups called companies and would go into the bush one at a time a war tactic that was used during the Vietnam War The draft was a major part of the war Many men just coming out of high school and do not go to college usually end up being drafted into the war The United States becomes divided by the war One side are people who support the war Ngo Dinh Diem and the other sides are the people who are against the war A chemical company called DOW started to recruit young college student who were majoring into chemistry Many students became angry because they knew that DOW creates large Napalm bombs Napalm bombs are bombs that filled with a firm jelly made from gasoline polystyrene and benzene Once the bombs are set off they burn at 2000 F degrees People nearby are killed or badly burnt by the bomb Chemical warfare is at its worst Mark Greenside Many villagers became more and more anti-American Many different war tactics were used by the United States A policy of attrition was used to wear down the enemy by finding weak spots within the enemy Also the United States had a plan to defeat Viet Cong through massive casualty rates We would use air strikes Napalm and Agent Orange These tactics did not work as well as the United States thought it would many citizens lost their lives US troops were demoralized and started to retreat back to America This left US with a few easy
