Change is inevitable it is an essential part of aging A variety of changes during the aging process require multiple adjustments that involve different aspects of an individuals life- these changes could be short term or long term Likewise transition is also an important component of lifes process- it is a long term process characterized by a passage from one state to another Meleis Sawyer Im Messias and Schumacher 2000 To better understand this concept an interview was done in one of the neighborhood community center in Burnaby The place was chosen since a number of seniors with age ranging from early 50s to late 70s are taking several classes along with other younger students there A group of Asian seniors caught my attention since they seemed to really enjoy each others company they were teaching each other the proper way of pronouncing different English words I introduced myself as a nursing student and explained my intentions although nearly everyone wanted to be a part of the interview I chose the Filipino lady as most of them cannot clearly communicate in English A second meeting was set up a day after the initial encounter During the whole interview process we used a mixture of English and Tagalog language since the interviewee wanted to practice her English skills For the purpose of privacy the interviewee will be addressed as Mrs J It was not hard to connect to the Mrs J since she has a welcoming personality I started with asking her about her homework and how she felt about her classes subsequently I continued on to why she decided to be involved in such classes As we progressed she told me more about her personal life There were times that I repeated or rephrased my sentences for she tended to be destructed by her surroundings very easily Moreover the lady was chatty and very involved which made the whole interview process to last for
