This was a Symposium project worked on by myself and three other people And having been the groups leader the finished product was composed by me Sports violence is on the rise throughout our society today There are many questions as to why this is occurring and where it is occurring Sports violence can be defined as behavior that causes harm occurs outside of the rules of the sport and is unrelated to the competitive objectives of the sport Among the many different sports groups and agencies the National Hockey League the National Football League and the National Basketball Association have the highest potential and actual violence occurring Incidences of violence in youth sports are also quite high Violence occurs in sports because of many reasons We can place the blame on aggressive parents players and fans as well as the media and professional players Parents get upset when their child is sat out when other parents have opinions that they disagree with and in their opinion bad play calls The media can be blamed for their providing exposure of violent attacks via magazines television and radio Also in many cases many professional sports players are idolized by other players children and fans If a professional loses his temper and is involved in a violent attack than an onlooker will see his actions and may think that it is ok for them to act the same while on the field or court There are many people who believe that sporting events are so violent due to the amount of it in our society The public should be concerned but not surprised by the violence in sports today because those involved are mirroring the actions of our societyLynn Jamieson Jamieson says that we are living in a violent era where people use violence to solve problems rather than more rational means of mediation She also states that violence is not limited to professional
