A Rumor Of Angels Purpose The purpose of the book A Rumor of Angels by Peter L Berger is to shed some light to the reader on the authors views and beliefs of supernatural and sociology The author starts the book by defining the term supernatural and how it is set apart from the natural world The definition of the term supernatural given in the book is a fundamental category of religion a belief that there is another reality one of ultimate significance to man that ties into everyday life When we as humans look at supernatural we consider the modern science and philosophy of the issue We as a society seem to function fine without supernatural in our day to day lives The author goes in to detail about religion and church He finds that people do not go to church with the burning desire for salvation from sin as many people think There are supernatural elements to religion that are less liquidated and where traditional language is transferred from one worldly referents to another Large religious groups are more inclined to various forms and degrees of aggiornaments that are limited This involves a bargaining process in which the author was very concerned He has questions of whether religious aspects are on the level of truth or time Sociology brings about a challenge to theological thought One challenge is that research gives the theologian a sense of his or her own minority status in contemporary society Another challenge would be the example of a minister who wants to find out if he is getting his messages across to his congregation in a clear manner to find out if he is or is not he passes out a survey to the congregation The perspective of sociology increases an individuals ability to investigate whatever truth each age may discover in its particular religion or immedary to God If the religious thoughts correspond to a
