Introduction11 Explanation of situation The United Arab Emirates is an arid country with very little rainfall its a serious problem facing the country the UAE uses 2 main water methods to supply water groundwater supplying 51 and desalination supplying 40 Al Mulla 2011 although the primary potable water is supplied by the last method12 Aims The aim of this report is to select the best possible method for UAE to depend on out of the 2 main methods that the country uses to supply water13 Introduction of the options and requirements The two methods that will be compared in this report is groundwater and desalination This report will look to compare the two methods from 3 different important criteria sustainability of supply quantity of water produced against demand and social Impact2 Background 21 The United Arab Emirates UAE is located in the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula According to The World Bank survey 2011 the UAE has a population of 7891 million and is an arid region which receives very little rainfall about 100 millimeters Al Mulla 2011 With this dramatic rise in population due to their economic growth and given the nature of the land the country is trying to adopt a water pattern such that they can rely on to support their huge rise in economic growth and their rapidly increasing population growth22 The two suitable methods that will be considered to adopt is Groundwater pumping and Desalination The cost of desalination method is much more costly than groundwater pumping it costs the UAE 800 million a year for the construction and to operate and to maintain this figure is expected to rise 300 by the year 2016 according to a report by Global Water Intelligence 20103 Presentation of options The UAE have 2 options in solving their long-term water problem and out of these two we
