The content area that I chose to do my reflection on is equity and equality The purpose of my reflection is to show that equity and equality is very important for us to achieve as citizens of the world Without a doubt I believe that if we want the world to be a better place we must work to reach the highest equality which is equityFirst of all my original perspective on equity and equality is that they were the same I thought that equity and equality means the same or dealt with treating people with equal opportunities In class we viewed a video documentary about the down fall of Jamaica economy The video shows how the IMF and World Bank policies are destroying Jamaica economy and preventing them from real independence For example one dairy farmer had to pour his milk down into the drain because he cannot compete with the cheap milk powder that is being imported from the United States In addition women are working in unregulated sweatshop and receiving weekly salaries of only 30 US dollars The IMF and the World Bank policies have really impacted the workers small businesses farmers and Jamaican society in large Jamaican farmers were able to make a decent living selling their goods on the local market but this came to an end when the IMF insisted on the removal of rate on imported goods All the examples on the video depicted the inequity and inequality that Jamaica as a society want though in the hands of the IMF and the World BankOn the other hand the personal growth that I gain is that I became more and more of a better person The challenges I experienced in the course as it relate to my learning is how some people can have such ideologies that they think that her or she is superior to others In the case of Jamaica it made me feel very angry
