Although I am a sophomore and not quite at the top of the high school ladder Ive seen what it takes to be a great class and school-body leader From past classes and alumni Ive been given superb examples of what it is to be a respected productive and versatile student People with these qualities tend to be at the front of the herd and paving the way for those who though undoubtedly excellent in many ways are the followers that act through imitation Those leaders are unintentionally allowing those skills to pass from person to person creating a whole new generation of guides I intend to be part of that generation Even now as I am tagging along behind the exemplary students I integrate both my natural leadership skills and those that Ive learned into my everyday life so others have yet another person to help them By doing activities both in school and outside of school I have achieved a more refined personal definition of what it means to be a true leader It doesnt take a complicated situation with an elaborate solution to show what it means to take charge and resolve the problem The majority of issues that occur in high school arent very complex anyway A true leader with strong character will set an example for the people around them not by harshly imposing their opinions on others but by incorporating everyones ideas to reach a solution or to avoid a problem in the first place Whether I am doing a group research report in school or simply playing a game with my family my highest priority is always to avoid conflict Although arguing eventually ends with a reasonable resolution not arguing at all is both faster and more pleasant still ending with resolution That is the difference between a leader and an overbearing boss When I am faced with a problem between myself and another person or two other
