The truth about the Roanoke Lost Colony remains a mystery to us alland in history The big question everyone has on their mind about thecolony and its colonist is simple How can 120 men women and childrenand their colony just vanish without leaving a trace of evidence oftheir story behind As a result many researches and historians came upwith many different conclusions Some people say the colony and itspeople could have been killed by nearby Indians or they joined theIndians for better chance of survive Others believe the colonist wentto their original planned destination but most people believe thecolonist just died off They say the colonists were doomed from thestart because they lack knowledge of the area and were clueless on howto use their surrounding to their advantage Now I conducted some research of my own on the lost colony Based onan article I have read done by Richard Durschlag In which Durschlagreviewed the book Roanoke Solving the Mystery of the Lost ColonWritten by Lee Miller The article states Lee Miller believes the colonywas doomed from the very beginning She mentions when England tried tocolonized Roanoke Island the first time it lead to disaster and manypeople knew if they tried to colonized it a second time it would end thesame way However their ships captain left them at Roanoke Islandanyway instead of at Chesapeake Bay Many people wanted thisexpedition to fail mainly one person in particular Francis Walsingham Francis was a wealthy and powerful man in England He saw WalterRaleigh the person backing the expedition as a possible threat to hismoney and power Therefore he wanted him to fail It was also saidFernandez the captain of the ship who left the colonist at RoanokeIsland owned Francis a favor because Francis help him gain his freedomTherefore they both could have conspired together against theexpedition to make sure it ended it failure Granted the expedition was a complete failure Lee Miller believes thecolonist did
