When I think about healthy eating the college cafeteria isnt the first place that comes to mind I know we have all heard of the freshman fifteen and are scared to death that may be our fate Colleges claim that they always serve healthy options so that we as students can avoid the massive weight gain So far this year I have been rather disappointed with what they had to offer Also it is quite possible that students are responsible for their unhealthy choices In my opinion the college and the student are both responsible Many people assume that the cafeteria is to blame for the weight gain in college students due to the many unhealthy options that they may serve Others believe that it is the students responsibility to stay active and chose the foods that will do their bodies the most good When people see the all you can eat style set up in the cafeteria they automatically think that this is the main reason that the students are gaining weight Some blame the weight gain strictly on the desserts and fast food Others think that the students control everything Who is correct I believe both sides of the story The students and the cafeteria are both to blame In order to show students what they are actually consuming I believe cafeterias should post the calories of every food item and serving sizes next to where that particular item is located By doing this students may begin to realize how bad certain foods are Even the kids that think they are eating healthy by eating salad might not realize how bad many of the dressings and toppings are Serving sizes are another huge issue with college students We are lead to believe that our serving sizes should be a large amount In reality a serving of any food group is only about the size of your fist Also I feel that the
