"You are off to a good start: you've looked for specific quotations from the text, started making the connections between the evidence and your thesis, and organized the essay along the lines presented in your introduction; the difference between dreams (hope) and reality. As you move toward the next draft, you have a few areas for attention. Your arguments are down on the page, but because the quotations are awkwardly integrated, it isn't always clear if or how the quotation best supports the idea. The quotations are also very long, and this can overwhelm the argumentation. You can also use summary and paraphrase, saving direct quotations for when you want to make a point about Fitzgerald's language and how he represents an idea on the page. Awkward word choice or typos also make it rather difficult to follow the presentation. Make sure to proofread. A polished final draft allows the reader to focus on your ideas rather than on interpreting the writing. Finally, the opening Merriam-Webster reference presents two related but, as it applies to the novel, opposite definitions. This throws off the argument--you will want to incorporate that tension or choose the definition that best suits your thesis."
