Rome William Warde Fowler has written many books on major historical events or happenings and his credibility on each book is factual and informative I chose Fowlers book Rome because he shares his knowledge of Roman culture which many of his topics in his book of our topics we discussed in class I have not attempted to make any alterations save in those places where statements of fact needed modification in the light of newer knowledge or where certain topical allusions would now seem out of date a quote from the author suggests the book allows basic understanding of the Romans The author writes this book with the thought in mind that the common person does not have a tremendous amount of knowledge about the Roman lifestyle and the Roman culture The historical importance provides informatory information about the Roman Empire including several Greek influences and contrasts on the Romans Fowlers states It is true that history of the two peoples is best looked at as one great whole there is a general likeness in their institutions the form of the State and the ideas of the government with which each grew to maturity were in the main the same5 He says in contrast of the Greeks the Romans mental development was much slower forming than of the Greeks The historical importance of this book allows the audience to focus on the Roman character the Revolution Augustus- the Revival of the Roman Spirit and Empire and concluding the Empire under Antonines Fowlers gentile approach in his writings allows the audience to easily grasp and understand the information of what he calls the most practical people in history The purpose for the book is the use of informatory content to describe the Roman culture Fowler has a unique approach to capture and grasp the audiences attention to explain the Roman civilization Rome remains a short and valuable account of the greatest years of the most
