World War II was a global war that lasted from 1941-1945 that was brought on by the instability in Europe due to World War I and conflicts with other countries in Europe and Asia WWII was one of the most violent wars that America has ever fought due to the 400000 lives lost during combat Therefore WWII was known as a pivotal and transformative event throughout American history There are many different reasons why America was involved in this war but many changes were made in the country such as the economy foreign affairs race relations and gender equality The United States was involved in many conflicts around the world that may have led to WWII The first conflict would be the open-door policy in China Japan wanted to slice up bits of China making them a spheres of influence and unable to trade with others including the United States With the Americans being stubborn and not taking no for an answer they decided to make an agreement known as the Treaty of Portsmith where Japan would honor the open door policy Later on Japan went against this treaty and the United States was not happy Former president Warren Harding demanded a meeting with all the great powers of the world including Japan Europe and the United States to discuss affairs and keep peace throughout America This was known as The Washington Naval Conference in Washington DC At this conference the great powers of the world agreed on one thing Arms Races The Arms Races would set limits on uses of weapons and decrease the number of battleships cruisers and so on The arms race lowered Japans disarmament from 553 to 175 giving more power to the United States The Japanese agreed to lower their cap because they knew they would not defeat the United States in a war and they did not have much interest in the arms agreementLater on Japan found ways
