2 Is the world self-sufficient for food livelihood and income only with traditional practices The global food system is facing a profound crisis primarily because of misguided aid trade and production policies In addition climate change has risen up the levels of the crisis particularly with the fast increase in the world population Other causes include the rapid expansion of industrial agriculture that has produced the unprecedented loss of plant genetics diversity Climate change is making the worlds food supply at a serious level threatens food production by increasing the frequency of extreme weather events placing additional pressure on both food supply and livelihood of farmers However while the reality of climate change has finally penetrated the debate of the certainty and the uncertainty of the global warming another environmental crisis threatens the worlds food supply like the dramatic loss of agrobiodiversity which are important for food production In the light of the previously explained facts the traditional practices will no longer be capable of supplying the world with sufficient food and income Sustainable agriculture is required to mitigate climate change effects by reducing GHG emissions and increasing carbon sequestration in soils This is because sustainable farming practices can reduce the fossil fuel-based carbon dioxide emissions since they consume less fossil fuel per hectare than industrial agriculture Not only sustainable agriculture is needed but also commercialized biotech GM crops is required in order to confront the worlds food supply crisis and to increase the income and the livelihood for farmers GM technology can make essential conurbations to agricultural productivity crop improvement including enhancing crop yields and nutritional quality and increasing resistance of crops to climate change circumstances Furthermore it can help to improve the sustainability and productivity of agricultureIn conclusion the challenges that are facing the worlds food supply must be addressed as a matter of urgency in order to make the world self-sufficient for food livelihood and income However relying
